What is New?

Greetings!

 

Mark your calendar and join us for the 11th Annual Houston ISD When I Grow Up Career Expo (WIGU) on Saturday, April 15th  from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center. This FREE outdoor event invites students from elementary to high school and their families to discover careers from local businesses, post-secondary institutions, and organizations. Displays are encouraged to be hands on, stimulating exhibits or activities to engage and spark the imagination of our students to motivate them in continuing their education towards career opportunities. WIGU also serves as an awareness to parents and students about the services and resources available within Houston ISD. Please see the attached flyers for additional information.

 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We are asking for volunteers to support with multiple areas of our WIGU expo. Please use the link below to sign-up for any area or multiple areas. The volunteer slots are in shifts for flexibility, please feel free to sign-up as you schedule permits including multiple time slots. We will have a brief meeting for volunteers before the event regarding check-in and assignments. A calendar invite will be sent to volunteers after the sign-up deadline.

HIRE HOUSTON YOUTH

Also students looking for a summer job, the City of Houston will host an onsite event for Mayor Turner’s Hire Houston Youth Initiative! This initiative will offer the opportunity for students to gain summer employment with Houston area businesses.  Positions are available for youth ages 16-24 years old, for 8 weeks of employment. Please see the attached flyers for additional information.  

 

This is a family event and district staff are encouraged to bring their own families as well.
