These teams serve several important functions in the high school community:

  1. Skill Development: Drill teams help cadets develop discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills through rigorous practice and performance of complex drill routines.

  2. Competition: NJROTC drill teams participate in competitions against other schools, showcasing their skills in various categories such as armed exhibition, unarmed exhibition, and basic drill. These competitions provide opportunities for cadets to demonstrate their abilities and represent their school.

  3. School Representation: Drill teams often perform at school events, community functions, and ceremonies, serving as ambassadors for their NJROTC unit and high school.

  4. Leadership Opportunities: Team captains are responsible for training and managing their teams, providing valuable leadership experience.

  5. Community Service: As part of the NJROTC program, drill team members often participate in community service activities, such as color guard presentations at veterans' events and local ceremonies.

  6. Personal Growth: Participation in drill teams helps cadets build confidence, self-discipline, and a sense of belonging within the NJROTC community.

  7. Military Preparation: While not its primary purpose, drill team experience can be beneficial for cadets considering a future military career, as it familiarizes them with military customs and discipline.

  8. Physical Fitness: The rigorous nature of drill team practice and performance contributes to the overall physical fitness of cadets.

By combining elements of military tradition, teamwork, and public performance, NJROTC drill teams play a significant role in developing well-rounded students and fostering a sense of pride and community within the high school environment.
