Mr. Terry Andre Hayes has made significant strides as the NNDCC Instructor at Evan E. Worthing Early College High School, achieving notable accomplishments despite facing considerable challenges. His dedication is evident in the substantial improvement of ASVAB scores, increasing the highest achievable score from 40 to an impressive 78 for freshmen who took the exam in 2022.

 

Moreover, Mr. Hayes played a pivotal role in elevating NJROTC SAT/ACT exam scores through monthly Khan Academy labs, showcasing his commitment to academic excellence. His innovative approach extended to the curriculum, where he expanded Naval Science to encompass Math, Science, English, and History, emphasizing research, critical thinking, and essay writing for cadets.

 

In the face of financial constraints and limited resources, Mr. Hayes displayed exceptional resilience by personally investing in the program. His proactive efforts to secure uniforms and equipment underscored his determination to maintain program standards, even with minimal school support and shared storage spaces.

 

A commendable focus on academic improvement was demonstrated by Mr. Hayes, who prioritized enhancing cadets' scores on standardized tests. Collaborating with the college readiness center and conducting regular SAT/ACT and ASVAB preparations reflected his holistic approach to education.

 

Noteworthy was Mr. Hayes' initiative to administer a practical MEPS-style exam, showcasing his innovative and resourceful leadership, particularly in navigating challenges such as limited ASVAB testing opportunities for seniors.

 

The tangible impact of Mr. Hayes' efforts is evident in the success stories of students transitioning to the Military Sealift Command and military service. Future commitments to both areas highlight the lasting influence of his guidance.

 

Despite acknowledging his pivotal role and demonstrating humility, Mr. Hayes, at times, contemplates whether a fresh perspective or leadership approach could further enhance the program’s success. This introspective outlook on the need for potential change underscores his commitment to the long-term success of the NNDCC program. Mr. Hayes is married to Leslie M. Hayes the Senior Medical Buyer for Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital, they have four children Erica, an Engineer in the U.S. Navy, Tamara, a Junior VP for Capital One Bank, Brianna, an Air Traffic Control in the U.S. Navy, and Isaiah a former U.S. Navy member now studying in college.  Mr. Hayes, his wife, and their dog Maxx live in Iowa Colony, Texas.
