THE AIR RIFLE COMPETITION TEAM
NJROTC Air Rifle Competition Teams are an integral part of the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program, focusing on marksmanship skills using air rifles. Here's a concise definition and explanation for cadets: We are looking for six (6) cadets (3) male and (3) female members to make up our Air Rifle Competition Team.
NJROTC Air Rifle Competition Teams are groups of cadets who participate in marksmanship events using air rifles. These teams compete in Three-Position Air Rifle Shooting, which involves firing at targets from three different positions: prone, standing, and kneeling.Key aspects of NJROTC Air Rifle Competition Teams include:

-
Equipment: Teams use 4.5 mm (.177 cal.) air rifles, typically the Crosman Challenger PCP air rifle, which operates on CO2 or compressed air.
-
Target setup: Targets are placed at a distance of 10 meters.
-
Positions: Cadets learn and practice shooting from prone, standing, and kneeling positions, each presenting unique challenges and requiring specific techniques.
-
Competition format: The most common event is the 3x10, where shooters fire ten record shots in each of the three positions.
-
Skill development: Participation helps cadets develop discipline, concentration, control, and precision.
-
Competition opportunities: Teams can participate in postal competitions, regional events, service championships, and even qualify for the National JROTC Championship.
-
Classes: Competitions often feature two classes - Sporter Air Rifle for beginners and those with minimal equipment, and Precision Air Rifle for more advanced shooters using specialized equipment.

NJROTC Air Rifle Competition Teams offer cadets a chance to improve their marksmanship skills, compete at various levels, and develop important personal qualities that can benefit them both in and out of the JROTC program
